There are certain things in this world you cannot explain. How can mirrors be real if our eyes aren't real? But more importantly, how can there be a void below the Minecraft world? There must be some kind of force at work...
I don't think it likes you.
Bedrock will attempt to fill its surrounding area with Void Gas. If the area is properly lit, the Void Gas will not appear, or it will evaporate.
Maybe you should place a torch next to this one?
